To do this from the same network you need the IP of the laptop or alternatively its name 
You can get the name by clicking the start button right then the system 
Connect and turn on your desktop computer (no screen)
Access Remote Desktop Connection by Searching for "Remote Desktop Connection" 
The software will cost you and on your computer you will enter the name PC or IP 
It will ask you to enter the user and password (of the desktop computer) will enter and now you have control of the computer "remotely"
