"Compress this drive to save disk space" Why is it good if anything?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!

I use with drive Of 256GB.

There is an option called "Compress this drive to save disk space" that makes all files less compressed and weighed,

Is it effective?

Or does it make something else work wrong?

Thank you!

Thank you!!! On the question and the answers. You helped me a lot. What other ways can you recommend to free up space besides "Disk Cleanup" (and also there what is recommended to mark and what is not?) What about the second option which is under "Compress Drive" (of "Allow content to be indexed ..")?

And one more question how do I get to Disk Defragmenter? (I remember that it also makes room. That is, thanks to the organization, space becomes available)

Thank you

The disk cleaner has a system file clean button, after pressing the button more options will appear.

One of them is file cleaning Update. Files downloaded by Windows to update a version.

From experience there are several GB there. But be careful, do not clean them as long as the Update does not show "You are updated" with a V mark.

Disk defragmenter is less attached to drives (SSD) but more for mechanical drives with a rotating plate. It arranges the file locations more efficiently. For example if there is a file that is scattered on the disk it will "merge" it so that all its information will be stored more uniformly.
