Should you upgrade your existing laptop for video editing or purchase a new MacBook or other laptop?

Recommended Posts

Hello. I have Has been used for several years mainly for video editing In the Premier.

The computer is reasonable but not optimal bought within budget limits, etc. and therefore a bit limping in the editing of non-4K materials and they are only 1080P and also the storage space is relatively limited, especially the main C drive which is Little.

Lately the computer has been pretty faltering in editing and I thought maybe I should upgrade certain components in the computer or maybe buy a new MacBook Pro or something else.

Do you think it is worth upgrading? How much will it cost to upgrade components? Continuously and not jerkily and what components need to be upgraded and where should the components be replaced?

Is it worth upgrading or maybe just buying a new computer? I realized that there is also much better and faster editing software on the Mac - Final Cut - which is also perhaps a consideration to buy . On the other hand there are those who claim to have computers That do not fall from the Mac.

The budget is limited to a few thousand shekels, but if necessary we will also invest up to about 8000 shekels to get a quality product that will last for years.

The computer I currently have:

ASUS STRIX GL502VY-DS71 15.6 "FHD

INTEL 2.6 GHz i7 6700HQ

NVIDIA GTX980M 4GB VRAM

16 GB -SDRAM

1 TB HDD 7200RPM plus, 128 GB M.2 SSD

Thanks.

Hey

This is a bad time to buy , Probably for purposes like yours.

Why do you insist on it ?

If it's short videos, without too many effects, there are also

Free software that can fit your existing mobile more than the Premier

In terms of hardware requirements.

I do not think that in the apple the grass is greener.

I would not run to Apple. In any case, a laptop that can be recommended within the budget (NIS 6495 on the website currently on pc365 Schneider) is https://www.pc365.co.il/product-26497-Asus_Zephyrus_G14_GA401IV_HA404T_Moonlight_White_AniMe_Matrix_version__במלאי

(Asus Zephyrus G14 GA401IV-HA404T in case hwzone blocks the link).

Relatively this computer will be more powerful than founders and similar Intel computers and according to plus-minus tests can be worked on in terms of screen. As there is also a version of a newer model that costs about 2000 or more with a processor from the 5000 series for amd's laptops and also a video card from the 3XXX series of .

Manufacturer: Asus, Product Type: Laptop, Processor Model: Ryzen ™ 9-4900HS Processor 3.0GHz (8M Cache, up to 4.3GHz), Internal memory capacity: 32GB, Storage capacity: 1TB, Disk type: PCIe NVMe M.2 , Screen size: 14.0, Resolution: 2560x1440, Video card model: NVIDIA® GeForce RTX ™ 2060 6GB GDDR6 Max-Q Design, Operating system: 10 Home, Warranty period: one year, Warranty type: Collection and return from customer, Service provider: Asus

Not accurate @A-10 . It all depends on how you look at it and it depends on which video card there is in addition because of new support (last year) from adobe in accelerating hardware for video cards of And nvidia in Premier).

In performance tests of many YouTubers it may seem like this because they use certain settings and most of it is old and out of date information.

In terms of processors then the advantage of In the premiere, the Quicksync was on the built-in video card. Without it then it is no faster.

On the other hand, many content creators do not actually use Quicksync hardware acceleration for several reasons. First thing is their requirements for certain codecs or different levels of Encoding that do not exist in Quick sync and that is a lot, or a certain level of finish that is lower in Quicksync.

Now it's important to note that the newer versions of Premier finally support the acceleration of hardware from Amd and Nvidia to video cards as well. So what was once exclusive to Intel has now been opened up to other video cards and is more serious than what Quicksync has to offer. Support for hardware acceleration in Premier only improves even for video cards of NVIDIA And of AMD.

Not exact ? Exactly yes.

I was not talking at all about a video card, but about a processor in the laptop you gave compared to a parallel processor of ..

AMD in the mobile in question hits the market on the hip its counterpart from Intel in almost every application / software.

Just for some reason, in the Premier the situation is reversed. Happens.

Just to note that there are quite a few more , And also .... quite a bit of editing software.  :)

The whole Quick Sink thing and what yes and what no - another time, in a different discussion ....

By and large the advantage that Intel had that was the only one that somehow supported hardware acceleration in the Premier, pretty much went down in the headlines a few months ago. It all happened after the massive update a few months ago almost a year ago. It is now possible to use more powerful video cards that give much better performance than the built-in video card In hardware acceleration. Anyway if anyone would like an inexpensive 13 inch computer, then maybe yes it is better for him to take something with Compared to something with a weak external video card. Anyway depending on budget and needs, but newer and more advanced video cards then of course have more impact. The help that a processor receives With Quicksync along with another video card it's not in the sky.

This is for example from the initial update that since then several new and improved versions have been released.

To open the spinach @simpleone, You are welcome regardless of checking the premiere performance test (and other Adobe software) through the puget test. Also that you have an indication of what you can get in upgrading and also in looking between different computers with different components. Link to test comparisons -

https://www.pugetsystems.com/benchmarks/?age=30&benchmark=&application=premiere&specs=#results-table

Option to install the test to test your computer yourself.

Plus this is an example of a computer test I offered you (although I did offer with 32GB of RAM).

Thanks. I fly a lot and edit so need to . I will not buy now but in a few months. There is no point in upgrading a particular component in a mobile instead of buying a new one?

I know someone who edits Apple with Final Cut (which is only available for Apple) with much better and faster performance.

Which editing software do you think is better than Premier?

Thanks, PC365 is not already in stock.

Anyway, I would also prefer a large monitor of at least 15.6 ", so I also wondered if it was impossible to just upgrade some existing component in the mobile I have at the moment.

Is there another recommended model with a large monitor?

Thank you.

There are more computers around this range with similar processors of Or the new generation. If you say you are going to buy only a few more months then there is time.

If you are more looking for component upgrades or software modifications - then first of all if you have access to updated versions of Premier then they are much more utilizing system resources than before. So worth updating.

There are other programs that depend on how you edit whether they will be faster or all the work on them will be faster or more successful.

For example you can always download the free version of Davinci resolve and test it. However, it has become the market standard for color grading. So sometimes someone edits in another software and does the color grading on it. In the free version it is not possible to edit in 4K and there is also no option of working with an entire team, but it does not seem to me that it is related here.

As for components it depends on the computer and if it is possible to upgrade the RAM and the ssd inside it. Will give some breathing space but not much.

Some people use a laptop and a box with a desktop video card that connects via semi-portable video editing. . But this is not something I currently recommend even if you have such a connection. If you have a connection Such and a powerful desktop video card that you can occasionally remove from your desktop computer, so maybe. But buy everything again less recommend.

And regardless, reliable antivirus, Updated, drivers and updated software, checking that everything is working properly as stated and there are no general stability issues in the system.
