The Tomb Raider series has known quite a few downsides in its life, but Crystal Dynamics decided to try and revive the brand. Did they succeed?

Let's face it: After the first games, the Tomb Raider series did not become a luxury brand (to say the least). The plot was shallow and even kitschy along almost every single player situation in every title (Hey Lara! There's a treasure and mystical secret that protects it! Let's go find it!). The soundtrack was terribly boring, and the gameplay was simply generic, hardly renewed, and some would even say it was a burden on the genre of action. In short, the series did not go anywhere.

Then Crystal Dynamics decided to change something. Given that the brand began to die, partly to blame (they are responsible for five games from 10) they needed salvation, and this salvation came in the form of young Lara Croft. The guys on the CD decided that instead of exploring another Lara Croft journey, they would take her to a dark, frightening and new period in her life. Did they succeed? The answers are:

Well, it seems that CD has finally succeeded in getting the right formula, critics are praising from all sides. According to Metacritic it seems that even most players are satisfied. Ploygon noted the amazing balance of Tomb Raider between different elements of the game. "It's cinematic, but open, it's powerful, but it's also calm, it's refreshing, but it's well done." In Kotaku, all the characteristics are notedSea in the game Who manage to shine and contribute to the overall feel of the game. "The visual elements - the plot, the dialogue, the dubbing and the graphic design - are all glowing."

At least for now, it seems that Tomb Raider has had a second chance. What about you? Do you agree with the reviews? Or is it just a pause from terrible games and a brand that refuses to die?
